More Pictures from the summers best car and bike shows are  here with this report from Hultsfreed Hayride.

The great July Weather combined good company of Retro Målari and some other friends made for a great road trip.

There was plenty to do with a nice spread of cars, live pinstriping, and nights packed with live rockabilly music. There was even some live tattooing inside and Pop up art show with artist Charlie Nilsson showing his fantastic paintings that fit right in with his use of custom car and bike images mixed with pinstripes. Outside there was live Pinstripes available from both customart and Von Sven.

Goood times…. don’t miss Hultsfreed next year !

As I have been slacking on getting posts up in a timely manner this summer we will continue  trip  down Memory lane  with some photos from the annual Jokers meet !

Aside from the rainy weather this was a real happening year for the Jokers show as we saw a lot of familiar faces from the prior weekend in Bottrop. Although  being on the circuit  meant many miles of wet pavement and trash bag armor for those riding their motorbikes, spirits where high and there was plenty of room indoors to keep dry and hangout. Later in the evening the rain let up and there was time to check out the rides, most notably the line up of  fine custom motorcycles which seems to grow and magnify every year… check it out!

Here are some (long over due) pics from the Bottrop Kustom kulture show, with it’s world renowned Kustom Kulture Art tent with booths from an international array of kustom artists  showing off  their work.

Aside from the art tent there was a multitude of traditional  hot rods, customs and bikes on display. The level of  quality of vehicles was very high for an outdoor show and there was also some classic drag races on the landing strip (the event takes place on an airfield)

Bottrop is  one of the cities located in the industrial Ruhr district  in the central western reign of Germany. And after a jam packed weekend  we where able to experience a typical German industrial neighborhood firsthand in the next town over, Bochum. We also experienced some true German hospitality with a Currywurst  BBQ !

All in all a great time and we highly recommend a visit to Bottrop next year if your not already planning on it !!

Von Sven’s  new ride …new from 52!
This fine ride was handed down by local collector of Vintage Racing Bicycles, Carlos. As the previous owner upgraded to a 1956 model in Mint condition!
Here are some specs on the set up…
model: Crescent 201-202
tubeset: krommolybdenstål
Stem: Titan
Handle Bar: Sylvere Maes-Kint
Front changer/derailleur: Simplex Competition
Rear changer/derailleur: Huret (France)
Hubs: FB Brevete (Italy)
Saddle: Brooks B-17

Some changes may be made, for example new bar tape, toe clips and dow the line possibly a set of competition wheels  Sew ups rather then the current clinchers (which are original for training)

But really as you can see there is really not much to do but get out and ride the thing !

Here are some photos from a scallop job I did ‘a while back  it was featured as a step by step in the latest issue of  Gasoline Magazine (Sweden)

As explained in the article the scallops where painted entirely by brush.

Some other New products from the VSKD artstore used where :

Owatrol Oil -The trick for getting the polar white 1 shot to fill the scallops so well with only one coating was by adding Owatrol Oil this new product not only slows the dying time of one shot lettering enamels it also enhances the flow and helps the covering ability! as you can see it the close up shots here the result is an almost glass like finish virtually free of brush strokes !
The Edge Pinstriping tape – Used for masking tight turns and leaving a razor sharp edge when removed.

Green abrasive pads – Good for lightly scuffing the area to be painted.

Foam Brushes -used to paint the fill of the scallops.
